By the late 1990s software manufacturers began producing prepackaged enterprise portal software. Among the first were Plumtree, Epicentric and Viador. By 2002 many additional vendors had entered the market including BEA, IBM and Oracle. Multiple enterprise portals were developed based on individual company structure and their strategic planning.

Enterprise portal software packages include such common applications as document management systems, content management systems, customer relations management, blog, wiki, collaboration software and business intelligence.
