What Does Customer Data Platform Mean?

A customer data platform (CDP) is a form of storing customer data that aims to give a complete picture of a customer, including website sessions, mobile app sessions, chat transcripts and email sessions. Techopedia Explains Customer Data Platform

A customer data platform, or CDP, is a kind of customer database that tries to aggregate as much data as possible, including phone numbers, where customers navigate on a website and transcripts of conversations with customer service representatives over email and web chat sessions.

The idea is to give marketers a central repository for all customer data. All customer behaviors are tied to a unique identifier, whether the customer has been identified or is anonymous. The key difference between a CDP and other systems is that CDPs are marketer-managed.
