A constrictor is a type of software capable of skewing a video signal to discourage someone from copying protected materials. It is designed for the sole purpose of copy protection, usually in response to unauthorized video copying attempts.

If someone is trying to copy an audio, a type of constrictor software is put into place to significantly lowers the audio quality, decreasing potential for copying it. The video also can be distorted and not easily viewed. Constrictor software actively degrades the quality of any copy, thus preventing the pirating or distribution of such unauthorized copies.
