Certified in the governance of enterprise IT (CGEIT) is a vendor-neutral certification that tests, validates and certifies IT governance skills, knowledge and practical experience of an individual.
It is developed, maintained, tested and monitored by ISACA. CGEIT is generally pursued and obtained by individuals having advisory, management and assurance of IT governance roles and duties within an organization.

CGEIT certifications validate and individual’s skills across five key job domains, including:
- Framework for the governance of enterprise IT
- Strategic management
- Benefits realization
- Risk optimization
- Resource optimization
Individuals must pass a three-hour exam and provide proof of at least five years of work experience in any of the job domains and/or related IT governance, management and more. Individuals can take the exam before or after the experience, but there is no substitution for the experience.
