Cancelmoose

What Does Cancelmoose Mean?

The Cancelmoose is a kind of mythical character that is part
of the now ancient history of USENET, a popular online forum in the early days
of the internet. The Cancelmoose character may have been a person or people who
went around canceling USENET articles that were characterized as spam or low
value content.

Techopedia Explains Cancelmoose

In the days of USENET, the freedom to post content online came with some amount of chaos and a need for system administration. In USENET’s early days, spam canceling was not formalized and effectively centralized. In that vacuum, the Cancelmoose worked to improve the value of the forum. Later, more formal spam canceling policies emerged.

The Cancelmoose still has its own website and historical data pages online. It is now effectively obsolete, as the USENET era has given way to the modern era of the internet where most communication is done through a variety of more modern venues, such as Facebook.
