What Does B1 Security Mean?
B1 security is a security rating for evaluating the security of computer applications and products to be used within government and military organizations and institutes. The U.S. National Computer Security Center (NCSC) created the B1 security rating to be used as a part of the Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria (TESC), Department of Defense (DoD) standard 5200.28-STD.

B1 security was part of the orange book that included various levels of security ratings that were devised specifically for all types of computing solutions in government and military facilities. B1 security adds additional requirements into B2. B1 security is also referred to as labeled security protection, where the system should have labeling and mandatory access control features over all objects, named subjects and exported objects.
